NVP of Agency Underwriting (West Coast)

Location: Remote within the USA; primarily aligned with Pacific Time or Mountain Time zone working hours to support the West Coast region.

What you will do

• Review second-level underwriting escalations, complex loan scenarios, fraud reviews, exception requests, and quality-related issues.
• Communicate underwriting decisions and explain the reasoning to underwriting leadership.
• Lead daily escalation reviews with underwriting vice presidents and conduct weekly spot checks of escalation decisions.
• Analyze monthly escalation reports and review outcomes with senior underwriting leadership.
• Develop the Agency Underwriting Scenario Team, ensuring appropriate staffing, service levels, quality checks, and consistent communication.
• Manage and publish the Agency Questions Log, communicate credit policy updates, and coordinate with credit risk, training, operations, processing, closing, post-closing, quality control, and Encompass teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Business or Finance; an advanced degree is preferred.
• 10+ years of mortgage underwriting experience, including at least 2 years of management experience.
• Extensive knowledge of risk evaluation and regulatory compliance.
• Strong knowledge of FHA, VA, and conventional loan programs.
• Demonstrated ability to lead teams and provide constructive performance feedback.
• Highly self-motivated and able to support West Coast operations during Pacific or Mountain Time working hours.
