Senior Counsel, Privacy Compliance (AI)

Location: Bellevue, Washington; Boston, Massachusetts; Chicago, Illinois; Denver, Colorado; Seattle, Washington; or Washington, D.C.

Salary: $207,600–$285,450 USD or $219,800–$302,300 USD annually, depending on pay zone. Additional compensation may include an annual performance bonus, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

• Advise the business on global privacy and data protection laws, including GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, ADMT, and U.S. state privacy laws.
• Build and mature the privacy program, including data subject rights, privacy notices, consent management, PIAs/DPIAs, policy management, and AI governance.
• Conduct gap analyses, DPIAs, PIAs, transfer impact assessments, and privacy risk assessments, and support records of processing activities.
• Draft and negotiate data protection provisions in commercial contracts, including DPAs, SCCs, and other data-transfer instruments.
• Develop privacy policies, notices, standards, training, awareness programs, and cross-functional privacy governance.
• Partner with legal, commercial, go-to-market, compliance, corporate, and public affairs teams while providing practical legal judgment and broader legal support.

Requirements

• 7+ years of relevant legal experience at a top law firm and/or in-house, including 5+ years focused on privacy and demonstrated experience building, operating, or leading a privacy compliance program.
• Deep, current knowledge of global privacy and AI frameworks, including GDPR/UK GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, the EU AI Act, and U.S. state privacy and AI laws.
• Familiarity with cross-border data-transfer mechanisms, including SCCs, IDTA, adequacy decisions, and the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework.
• Working knowledge of DPIAs/PIAs, RoPA and data mapping, data subject rights, privacy by design, and vendor or third-party risk management.
• Technical proficiency using AI tools to build skills, agents, and automated tasks.
• Ability to act as a legal generalist, learn new areas quickly, and understand cloud and software technology.
• J.D. from a top-tier law school and state bar membership in good standing.
• Ability to set program direction, prioritize competing demands, manage multiple cross-functional projects, and operate independently with minimal supervision.
• Strong judgment, stakeholder relationship-building, executive influence, organizational, written, verbal, and communication skills.

Nice to have

• Experience working for a company offering platform services to business customers.
• Familiarity with privacy management tooling such as OneTrust or comparable platforms.
• One or more privacy certifications, such as CIPP/E, CIPP/US, CIPM, CIPT, or FIP; CIPM is particularly valued.
• Experience combining top-law-firm and in-house work.
