Packaging Engineer

Location: Richland, Washington, USA, at the Technical Center; regular onsite work and up to 25% travel are expected.

Salary: $78,520–$117,790 annually.

What you will do

• Support packaging innovation projects from ideation through commercialization using the stage-gate process.
• Lead technical delivery for base-business projects while supporting complex packaging initiatives.
• Plan, execute, and analyze plant, pilot-plant, and laboratory trials.
• Develop packaging savings, innovation, plant-efficiency, and quality-improvement opportunities.
• Define, interpret, approve, and issue technical specifications and document trial results.
• Collaborate with business units, technical teams, suppliers, and other external partners while mentoring associate engineers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Packaging, Engineering, or a related field.
• At least 2 years of packaging-industry experience; CPG experience is preferred.
• Strong knowledge of packaging materials, equipment capabilities, structural package testing, and material qualification.
• Working knowledge of food science, food safety, sanitary design, equipment cleaning, and food-processing regulations.
• Proficiency in 2D/3D design tools such as AutoCAD, ArtiosCAD, or SolidWorks, plus Microsoft Office.
• Valid US driver’s license, ability to meet company driving standards, ability to lift 25–50 lb, and ability to stand for 75% of the workday.

• Consumer packaged goods experience.
• Experience with supplier negotiations, cross-functional conflict resolution, and mentoring.
