Senior Mechanical Design Engineer - Closures (Automotive Robotics)

Salary: $139,400–$205,000 USD per year, plus potential equity grants.

What you will do

• Own the architecture, design, and execution of closure systems for an autonomous delivery vehicle.
• Develop hinges, latches, actuators, linkages, counterbalance systems, and environmental sealing solutions.
• Partner with industrial design, vehicle architecture, systems engineering, manufacturing, reliability, and operations teams.
• Design products for durability, cost efficiency, high-volume manufacturing, and reliable operation in demanding outdoor environments.
• Lead cross-functional technical discussions and influence engineering decisions across multiple disciplines.
• Review CAD, troubleshoot prototype hardware, and improve assembly quality with manufacturing engineers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• 6+ years of experience designing automotive body, closure, or mechanism systems from concept through production.
• Deep expertise in closure mechanisms, structural design, fatigue, durability, corrosion prevention, and environmental sealing.
• Experience with sheet metal stamping, castings, injection molding, extrusions, and welded assemblies.
• Extensive CAD experience with NX, SolidWorks, or CATIA, including complex parametric assemblies.
• Strong skills in tolerance analysis, stack-up management, GD&T, FEA, kinematic analysis, MATLAB, Python, or similar engineering tools.

• Experience with commercial vehicles, autonomous vehicles, robotics, or high-duty-cycle products.
