TL;DR
Hardware Integration Engineer (Robotics): Building and validating complex robotic hardware platforms from prototype through deployment readiness with an accent on electrical, mechanical, firmware, and subsystem integration. Focus on debugging hardware interfaces, designing test setups, and stress-testing battery, drivetrain, thermal, sensor, and embedded controller systems.

Location: Oakland, California, United States; fully onsite

Salary: $109,500–$161,000 USD per year, plus potential equity grants.

What you will do

  • Own bring-up, integration, and validation of complex robotic hardware systems.
  • Define subsystem interfaces, integration risks, dependencies, and hardware validation requirements.
  • Integrate and debug vehicle controls, power distribution, motion control, sensor systems, embedded platforms, and communication buses.
  • Build bench rigs, physical test setups, diagnostic workflows, and wiring harnesses.
  • Use laboratory equipment to investigate electrical, timing, signal integrity, power, and communication issues.
  • Develop validation procedures, document results and known issues, and assess platform readiness for manufacturing and deployment.

Requirements

  • BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Robotics, Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in hardware systems integration, vehicle bring-up, hardware validation, or complex mechatronics systems.
  • Hands-on experience debugging electrical, communication, signal integrity, timing, and power issues.
  • Ability to read schematics, wiring diagrams, interface specifications, board documentation, and mechanical drawings.
  • Experience with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, multimeters, power supplies, CAN tools, and other diagnostic equipment.
  • Knowledge of digital electronics, embedded peripherals, I2C, SPI, UART, CAN, Ethernet, USB, GPIO, Python, Linux shell scripts, Git, logs, and diagnostic tools.

  • Experience taking robotic or electromechanical hardware through prototype bring-up, validation, manufacturing test, reliability testing, or field failure analysis.
