Camera Hardware Engineer (Robotics) (camera systems and imaging): Developing and validating camera modules and complete vision systems that enable humanoid robots to perceive and operate in real-world environments with an accent on image quality, optical and electrical characterization, and production readiness. Focus on designing validation methodologies, calibrating high-volume manufacturing systems, and solving complex imaging challenges across optics, electronics, software, and robotics.

Location: San Carlos, California, United States; full-time onsite

Salary: $175,950–$225,000 per year, plus equity

What you will do

  • Develop and validate camera modules, image sensors, and complete vision systems for robotic perception.
  • Own camera hardware validation from prototype bring-up through qualification and mass production.
  • Characterize optical, electrical, and system-level camera performance under robotic operating conditions.
  • Define image quality specifications, validation methodologies, objective metrics, and calibration procedures.
  • Design manufacturing test processes for high-volume production and collaborate with suppliers on quality and manufacturing requirements.
  • Partner with Computer Vision, Machine Learning, Electrical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering teams to optimize imaging system performance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • 3+ years of experience developing, validating, or characterizing camera and imaging systems.
  • Deep understanding of image sensors, optics, lenses, image signal processors, and complete imaging pipelines.
  • Working knowledge of electrical and mechanical camera-module integration.
  • Programming experience with Python and C/C++, proficiency in Linux, and experience with image quality evaluation tools such as Imatest, Image Engineering, MATLAB, or equivalent.
  • Ability to work full-time onsite in San Carlos, California.

Nice to have

  • Experience developing stereo vision or multi-camera systems.
  • Experience validating and calibrating imaging systems for high-volume consumer electronics or robotics products.
  • Familiarity with camera manufacturing, production testing, calibration workflows, qualification testing, statistical analysis, and manufacturing process validation.
  • Experience with computer vision and machine learning frameworks and direct collaboration with optical, sensor, and camera module suppliers.
