Flight Test Engineer (Electric Aircraft)

Salary: $159,800–$235,000 USD annually, plus potential equity grants.

What you will do

• Plan, scope, and execute flight tests evaluating vehicle performance, control behavior, and system reliability.
• Translate engineering requirements into test objectives and coordinate feedback between engineering and flight operations.
• Analyze flight data covering vehicle dynamics, control performance, subsystem interactions, failures, and reliability trends.
• Develop Python- and SQL-based tools for data visualization, trend detection, and performance assessment.
• Use SIL and HIL environments to validate software updates, control algorithms, and sensor integrations.
• Create test plans, procedures, and reports with traceability to system-level and performance requirements.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, or a related engineering discipline.
• Strong foundation in flight test engineering, including planning, instrumentation, data reduction, and safe test execution.
• Proficiency in Python and SQL for data analysis, tooling, and automation.
• Experience with reusable analysis libraries or frameworks and Git-based collaborative development workflows.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Ability to work in San Francisco, California, United States.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with C++ codebases, especially embedded or autonomy code.
• Experience with electric aircraft systems, battery modeling, motor performance characterization, or electric propulsion integration.
• Experience supporting aerodynamics, guidance, navigation, and control, or wind tunnel testing.
