Test Development Engineer (Actuation Systems)

Location: San Jose, California, United States; 5 days per week in-office

Salary: $150,000–$250,000 annually

What you will do

• Lead the development and maintenance of highly automated, scalable actuation test systems.
• Develop dyno software on Speedgoat and Simulink Real-Time, including controls, hardware abstraction, data acquisition, calibration, and operator interfaces.
• Integrate EtherCAT drives, permanent-magnet motors, analog torque cells, and precision encoders with dyno systems.
• Calibrate dynos, validate measurement accuracy, and troubleshoot the complete sensor-to-controller signal chain.
• Run structured bring-up and characterization campaigns to stabilize systems before handoff.
• Document test plans and validation results while supporting cross-disciplinary development and training test engineers.

Requirements

• 8+ years of hands-on experience with dynamic motion control systems and advanced test system development.
• Experience building test solutions for actuation or motor systems, including dynamometers.
• Hands-on experience with EtherCAT-based servo drives and permanent-magnet motor control.
• Experience integrating and calibrating analog torque sensors and high-resolution absolute encoders.
• High proficiency with Matlab, Simulink, Simulink Real-Time, Speedgoat, Python, and Git.
• Knowledge spanning controls engineering, actuation characterization, mechanical dynamics, electrical engineering, laboratory testing, documentation, and planning.

Nice to have

• Ability to create electrical engineering schematics.
• Advanced vibration analysis, including order tracking and spatial sampling.
• Experience developing UI/HMI tools for test operators.
