Manager, Government Relations (Tech)

Location: Based in Sacramento, California, United States; willing to travel 30–40% of the time.

Salary: $136,000–$200,000 USD per year, plus potential equity grants.

What you will do

• Lead government relations and public engagement efforts in California and the U.S. Southwest.
• Build and maintain trusted relationships with policymakers, community leaders, civic stakeholders, and industry partners.
• Develop advocacy campaigns and advance policy solutions supporting local economies, safety, equity, and sustainability.
• Manage external consultants, coalitions, and industry trade association coordination.
• Partner with Public Affairs, Communications, Legal, and other business functions.
• Translate complex policy issues into clear written updates and actionable insights.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.
• 4+ years of experience in state government or direct public policy work for corporate clients.
• Deep understanding of government relations, lobbying strategies, issue campaigns, stakeholder engagement, and coalition building.
• Proven ability to achieve complex policy outcomes under pressure.
• Strong strategic thinking, written advocacy, oral communication, and public engagement skills.
• Willingness to travel 30–40% of the time.

Nice to have

• Government and in-house experience.
• Employment or labor law policy experience.
• Significant California state-level experience.
• Technology industry or on-demand economy experience.
