TL;DR
Contractor - Mechanical Engineer 4 (NSSS Vessels & Structures) (ANSYS/ASME Section III): Designing and analyzing nuclear steam supply system pressure vessels and primary equipment supports with an accent on stress analysis, finite element modeling, and nuclear quality requirements. Focus on evaluating pressure, mechanical, and thermal loadings, optimizing component designs, and providing technical leadership for complex NSSS analyses.

Location: Remote within the contiguous United States, with national and local travel as required for business needs.

What you will do

  • Perform and document pressure vessel and primary equipment support evaluations under ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Section III, including Subsections NB and NF.
  • Analyze primary stress, primary plus secondary stress intensity ranges, fatigue, and pressure, mechanical, and thermal loadings.
  • Use ANSYS finite element software and CAD packages to support component design optimization.
  • Interpret project requirements, oversee engineering results, and resolve complex technical problems.
  • Serve as a technical lead for the NSSS Component Analysis Group and mentor less experienced engineers.
  • Coordinate design activities with multidisciplinary engineering teams and senior stakeholders.

Requirements

  • B.S. degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical Engineering, from an ABET-accredited institution.
  • At least 10 years of relevant full-time engineering experience.
  • Extensive ANSYS experience performing stress analysis under ASME Section III, Subsections NB and/or NF.
  • Detailed knowledge of applicable nuclear industry codes, standards, regulations, 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, 10 CFR 21, and ASME NQA-1 quality requirements.
  • Eligibility to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810 is required.
  • Strong technical communication, planning, leadership, problem-solving, and multidisciplinary collaboration skills.

Nice to have

  • Advanced engineering degree.
  • Professional Engineer certification.
  • Programming experience with ANSYS APDL, MATLAB, or Python.
