TL;DR
Heat Exchanger Design Engineer (Nuclear): Designing and developing mechanical systems, structures, and components for advanced nuclear reactors with an accent on heat exchanger, pressure vessel, piping, reactor internals, and high-temperature material design. Focus on performing structural, thermal, and hydraulic calculations, creating CAD models, supporting manufacturing and testing, and developing verification and validation plans.

Location: Gaithersburg, Maryland, United States; 4 days in office. Standard schedule is 8:00am–5:00pm ET, Monday–Friday, with up to 10% travel.

Salary: $185,000–$207,500 per year.

What you will do

  • Design and develop mechanical systems, structures, and components for nuclear products and facilities, with a focus on nuclear safety.
  • Develop concepts and innovative solutions for pressure vessels, piping, reactor internals, nuclear fuel, heat exchangers, and high-temperature materials.
  • Perform structural, thermal, hydraulic, and other engineering calculations using hand calculations and analytical tools.
  • Create and maintain CAD engineering models and integrate designs across engineering teams, partners, and suppliers.
  • Support prototyping, testing, commissioning, manufacturability, assembly, and hardware production oversight.
  • Prepare design basis documents, technical reports, calculations, drawings, and verification and validation plans; review engineering deliverables and mentor junior engineers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related engineering discipline; typically 15 years of engineering experience.
  • Proficiency with engineering hand calculations and experience designing mechanical or fluid systems, assemblies, or components.
  • Experience with CAD and PLM software such as UG/NX, SolidWorks, Pro/Engineer, Teamcenter, Windchill, or similar tools.
  • Hardware ownership experience, including manufacturing and testing oversight.
  • At least one year of hands-on experience developing and delivering hardware or manufacturing processes in a production environment.
  • Ability to work in the Gaithersburg office four days per week and follow the standard Eastern Time office schedule.
