Environmental Compliance Specialist (Waste-to-Energy)

Location: West Wareham, Massachusetts, USA. This is a field-based operating-facility role requiring routine site presence, with approximately 10%–20% day travel across Eastern and Central Massachusetts and occasional evening, weekend, or holiday work.

Salary: $87,300–$116,200 USD per annum.

What you will do

• Support environmental compliance programs covering air emissions, CEMS, ash, solid waste, stormwater, wastewater, potable water, and hazardous waste.
• Participate in environmental permit applications, renewals, modifications, and supporting documentation for facility construction, operation, and expansion.
• Complete and review environmental testing, monitoring, records, data, and regulatory reports.
• Conduct environmental walkdowns at the thermomechanical treatment facility and satellite sites, coordinate corrective actions, and follow findings through closure.
• Coordinate compliance work with operations, maintenance, consultants, engineers, contractors, laboratories, and regulatory agencies.
• Monitor regulatory changes, support inspection readiness, and identify compliance risks, trends, and improvement opportunities.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, engineering, engineering technology, chemistry, biology, or a related scientific discipline; relevant power-plant, industrial-operations, or military experience may substitute.
• At least three years of direct, on-site environmental compliance experience in a heavy-industrial, energy, power-generation, waste-to-energy, landfill, transfer-station, recycling, material-processing, or comparable operating facility.
• Experience with environmental permits, regulatory reports or submissions, facility inspections, corrective-action follow-up, and environmental monitoring or testing.
• Familiarity with active industrial facility operations and experience working with operations, maintenance, contractors, consultants, laboratories, or regulatory agencies.
• Ability to use environmental or operational data-management tools and prepare clear technical records, reports, and presentations.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, and SharePoint; ability to meet testing and reporting deadlines.

Nice to have

• Thermomechanical treatment, power-generation, boiler, combustion, air-pollution-control, stack-testing, or CEMS experience.
• Experience with transfer stations, landfills, material-processing, recycling, or other solid-waste operations.
• Massachusetts environmental compliance or MassDEP experience.
• Hazardous-waste experience, including RCRA and DOT documentation.
• Massachusetts Professional Engineer or Drinking Water Operator credential, or Microsoft Copilot experience.
