Senior Embedded Software Engineer (Satellite Communications)

Salary: $197,529–$276,539 annual base pay for California and Washington applicants; other site ranges may differ.

What you will do

• Design reliable embedded C/C++ firmware for constrained microcontrollers, FPGAs, and SoCs.
• Program and dynamically update beamforming IC phase registers to enable microsecond-level electronic beam steering.
• Develop and debug SPI, I2C, UART, PCIe, and Ethernet drivers for transceivers, RF front-ends, and baseband processors.
• Optimize TCP/IP, UDP, DHCP, and VLAN networking for low latency and high throughput.
• Implement thermal throttling, power-saving states, and automated fault protection for high-density electronics.
• Build secure bootloaders, cryptographic verification, and resilient over-the-air firmware updates.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, or a related field.
• 7+ years of embedded software development experience in high-speed communications, radar, networking, or aerospace hardware.
• Expert-level modern C and C++ skills for embedded systems.
• Deep experience with RTOS platforms such as FreeRTOS, Zephyr, or VxWorks and/or Embedded Linux.
• Ability to read electrical schematics, interpret datasheets, and use oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and JTAG debuggers.
• U.S. citizenship, permanent residency, or qualifying U.S. refugee/asylee status is required.

Nice to have

• Experience with phased-array antennas, digital beamformers, direct-RF sampling transceivers, or satellite communications.
• Yocto Project or Buildroot, custom Embedded Linux distributions, and cross-compilation toolchains.
• Hardware security features such as TPM, TrustZone, hardware accelerators, and secure enclaves.
• Hardware-in-the-Loop testing, firmware CI pipelines, and formal verification for safety-critical software.
• Advanced networking experience with BGP, MPLS, SRv6, IPv6, SDN, NFV, and constrained-link optimization.
