Senior Embedded Software Engineer (C++)

Location: San Francisco, United States

Base salary: $180,000–$235,000 USD per year, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

• Develop flight software for satellite flight computers and Earth station hubs.
• Develop firmware for satellite and Earth station control boards.
• Assist with software architecture, high-level design, implementation, and execution.
• Improve software reliability through requirements generation, continuous integration, automated testing, and code reviews.
• Collaborate with Payload, Communications Ground Control, and Telemetry teams to integrate software with custom hardware.
• Deliver complex projects incrementally and mentor junior engineers.

Requirements

• 5–8+ years of experience developing product software in modern C++ or C.
• Familiarity with software development methodologies and design patterns.
• Experience with communication protocols including TCP/IP, I2C, and SPI.
• Experience building high-availability or high-reliability systems.
• Strong communication and written skills, with an interest in space technology.
• US citizenship, lawful permanent residency, or refugee/asylee status required to comply with US Government space technology export regulations.

Nice to have

• Experience with Python and embedded Linux or POSIX systems.
• Experience with VxWorks, Linux, FreeRTOS, or QNX.
• Experience building, testing, and shipping production software.
• Experience with safety-critical development, board bring-up, hardware/software debugging, or integration.
