Director, Climate and Environment

Location: London, United Kingdom; hybrid working with three days in the London office and two days remote. Applicants must have the right to work in the UK; visa sponsorship is not available.

What you will do

• Lead business development, capture, and proposal activities to win new contracts and grow the climate and environment portfolio.
• Build trusted relationships with governments, donors, private-sector clients, strategic partners, and senior stakeholders.
• Oversee complex contract portfolios, ensuring delivery on time, within budget, and against quality and financial targets.
• Provide technical leadership, quality assurance, governance, and continuous improvement across programmes.
• Lead a corporate team of 6–7 people and programme leadership teams as required.
• Develop thought leadership, market positioning, service offerings, and integrated client solutions.

Requirements

• Demonstrated programme leadership experience in climate, environment, forestry, land use, or natural resource governance.
• Track record in forest governance, nature-based programmes, climate adaptation, or a related field.
• Proven success winning work for FCDO and other donors.
• Experience overseeing large, complex delivery portfolios with multiple stakeholders.
• Strategic systems thinking, commercial judgement, and strong communication, negotiation, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
• Existing right to work in the UK is required; visa sponsorship is not available.

Nice to have

• Experience with climate adaptation and climate resilience.
• Relationships with development finance institutions, multilateral development banks, and climate or nature initiatives.
• Experience designing and delivering locally led adaptation and resilience programmes.
