TL;DR

Focus on designing time-stepping simulation models, evaluating converter controls for varied use cases, and solving complex power-system integration challenges.

What you will do

  • Review and assess emerging inverter-based resource and HVDC technologies, including costs, benefits, capabilities, and implications for future power-system operation.
  • Create dynamic models of power networks, inverter-based resources, and their controls for EMT and other time-stepping simulation systems.
  • Investigate and evaluate local, supplementary, and system-level controls for inverter-based resources and HVDC systems.
  • Work with project investigators, academic collaborators, and industrial partners.

Requirements

  • Relevant PhD or equivalent combination of education and industrial experience in power systems incorporating power electronics.
  • Research expertise in integrating large-scale power-electronic devices, such as HVDC, within power systems.
  • Experience with dynamic modelling, stability analysis, and power-system simulation.
  • English proficiency sufficient for research, collaboration, and technical communication is required.

Nice to have

  • Experience with EMT simulation of power systems and power-electronic converters using PSCAD/EMTDC.
  • Transferable skills and real-world industrial experience.
