TL;DR
Space Avionics Systems Architect (Spacecraft Avionics): Define and lead spacecraft avionics architectures for on-board computers, payload interfaces, high-speed networks, and mission operations systems with an accent on distributed embedded hardware, FDIR, and system recovery. Focus on designing radiation-tolerant architectures, resolving complex interface and system trade-offs, and establishing safe-mode and watchdog concepts for satellite and flight-control development.

Location: Onsite in Friedrichshafen, Bremen, or Munich, Germany; relocation support is available.

What you will do

  • Lead end-to-end spacecraft avionics architecture definition and system decomposition.
  • Define interface strategies across on-board computers, payloads, processors, FPGAs, and SoCs.
  • Architect high-speed networking, payload backplanes, boot concepts, and system recovery mechanisms.
  • Design FDIR strategies, including safe-mode behavior and watchdog concepts.
  • Maintain architecture baselines, diagrams, and technical design justifications.
  • Perform radiation-tolerance, EMI/EMC, signal-integrity, and power-distribution analyses while collaborating with GNC, RF, software, FPGA, and mechanical engineering teams.

Requirements

  • EU passport required.
  • Fluent English required.
  • Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, or an equivalent field.
  • 10+ years of experience in spacecraft avionics, high-speed digital electronics, or complex embedded hardware systems.
  • Experience architecting distributed systems with processors, FPGAs/SoCs, and high-speed interfaces.
  • Expertise with ATOP, MOIS, EGS-CC operations procedure language/EAPL, ECSS PUS, and ECSS-E-ST-70 guidance.

Nice to have

  • Knowledge of German.
