Staff Software Engineer, Metadata

Salary: $183,000–$245,000 USD per year

What you will do

• Lead the design and delivery of complex projects across metadata services, coordinating work across multiple engineers.
• Design new subsystems and own team-level architecture end to end.
• Set technical direction, review designs, and uphold engineering, architecture, and coding standards.
• Drive initiatives across discovery API, catalog, lineage, and run history capabilities.
• Coach and mentor engineers while improving code quality and documentation practices.
• Optimize critical services, follow through on incidents, improve reliability and performance, and participate in on-call rotation.

Requirements

• 8+ years of software engineering experience, including leadership of complex, team-scope technical work.
• Deep experience designing and owning subsystems in distributed, cloud-based systems.
• Strong architecture judgment, technical direction skills, and experience leading multi-engineer initiatives.
• Proficiency in a backend or systems language such as Python, Java, C++, or C#.
• Hands-on experience with AWS, GCP, or Azure, plus Docker, Kubernetes, and development infrastructure.
• Fluent use of AI coding assistants, coding agents, and conversational AI for software development and SDLC artifacts.

Nice to have

• Experience with ETL, ELT, or cloud-based data platforms.
• Experience architecting metadata, catalog, lineage, discovery, or search systems.
• Experience with GraphQL APIs and high-throughput, multi-tenant data services.
• Familiarity with analytics engineering and the dbt ecosystem.
