Staff Software Engineer, Backend (Vue)

Location: Hybrid, based in Toronto, Canada or Oakland, United States; in-person collaboration required 2 days per week.

Salary: $196,033–$245,041.50 USD per year for the Oakland pay range.

What you will do

• Integrate Reverse ETL and data activation capabilities into the Fivetran dashboard across authentication, billing, data models, and UI.
• Build, deploy, and maintain end-to-end product features across Ruby on Rails, TypeScript, Vue, and AWS.
• Work with product leaders and customers to design and develop data activation features.
• Lead major projects from research spikes and design documents through implementation and rollout.
• Mentor early-career engineers, review code, advise on best practices, and provide project-level leadership across teams and time zones.

Requirements

• Expertise in at least one interpreted language such as Python or Ruby on Rails.
• Hands-on experience with at least one compiled language such as C++, Kotlin, Scala, Go, or Java.
• Strong understanding of relational databases and experience with backend systems, APIs, and UI components.
• Experience with system integration, including API consumption and development; cloud experience with GCP, AWS, or Azure.
• Experience building, deploying, maintaining, and supporting production systems, including on-call work.
• Ability to work in person at the Toronto or Oakland office 2 days per week.

Nice to have

• Experience with data warehousing solutions such as Snowflake.
• Experience with infrastructure management.
