Mechanical Engineer (Exchange Exits / Data Centres)

Location: Ipswich, UK; hybrid working with at least three days per week in the office

What you will do

• Lead the design, development, prototyping, and validation of robotic and mechanical devices for exchanges, data centres, mobile sites, and field infrastructure.
• Manage Smart Tools and Robotics research projects and contribute to the wider research strategy.
• Work with manufacturers and engineering teams to develop solutions from proof of concept to scaled implementation.
• Coordinate partnerships, consortia, proposals, and collaborative projects from initiation through completion.
• Deliver field engineering change initiatives and transformation activities informed by field research.
• Track emerging Smart Tools and Robotics technologies and share knowledge across the team.

Requirements

• Professional mechanical engineering skills.
• CAD and computer-aided design experience.
• Hands-on prototyping experience.
• Experience developing or applying mechanical solutions for physical infrastructure environments.
• Ability to collaborate with engineering teams, manufacturers, and external partners.

Nice to have

• Experience with Smart Tools and Robotics technologies.
• Knowledge of tools for excavation, poles, overhead cables, towers, racking, cable installation, ducts, chambers, or confined spaces.
• Data centre, exchange, Openreach access network, or wireless infrastructure experience.
• DIY or hands-on technical background.
