TL;DR

Safety And Facilities Advisor (Occupational Health and Safety): Leading and continuously improving the Faculty of Applied Science occupational health and safety program across research, operational, learning, fabrication, and student design environments with an accent on governance, regulatory compliance, risk management, and safety systems. Focus on assessing complex engineering activities, coordinating incident response and corrective actions, developing safety standards and training, and influencing distributed stakeholders across the Faculty.

Location: hirify.global Vancouver Campus in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada; onsite role. The position supports activities across the Point Grey and Okanagan campuses and off-site locations as required.

Salary: $7,502.25–$10,788.33 CAD per month.

What you will do

  • Lead the design, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and continuous improvement of the Faculty-wide occupational health and safety program.
  • Establish safety goals, priorities, performance measures, governance processes, and corrective action frameworks.
  • Advise faculty, staff, students, academic units, and leadership on occupational health and safety requirements and applicable legislation.
  • Oversee hazard identification, risk assessments, inspections, training, emergency preparedness, incident reporting, and investigations.
  • Develop safety programs for engineering design teams, capstone projects, fabrication, testing, competitions, and other experiential learning activities.
  • Coordinate Safety & Risk Services, Building Operations, departmental safety personnel, student safety officers, and other stakeholders through functional leadership and influence.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline and at least three years of related experience, including one year in a specialized area, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience designing, implementing, and evolving safety management systems in complex, decentralized environments.
  • Knowledge of occupational health and safety legislation, regulatory requirements, university policies, and governance structures.
  • Experience with safety practices in laboratory, research, fabrication, or workshop environments.
  • Strong relationship-building, communication, facilitation, collaboration, analytical, problem-solving, hazard identification, and risk assessment skills.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities independently and demonstrate commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
