Software Engineer (Embedded Controls)

Software Engineer (Embedded Controls) (Electrification Propulsion): Developing embedded control software for GM’s EV and HEV propulsion systems with an accent on hybrid engine speed and torque optimization, energy efficiency, diagnostics, and sensor and actuator management. Focus on implementing physics-based controls, integrating software across vehicle architectures, and validating functionality from unit level through complete vehicle testing.

Location: Hybrid in Milford, Michigan; in-office attendance is required at least three times per week. The role may be eligible for relocation benefits.

What you will do

• Develop and deliver embedded control software for EV and HEV electrification propulsion systems.
• Design and implement physics-based controls, energy optimization, diagnostics, and controller communication solutions.
• Test and demonstrate software functionality and readiness at unit, integration, controller, system, and vehicle levels.
• Document design requirements and link them to test cases that verify software functionality.
• Use CI/CD build environments, automated test tools, benches, and vehicles to validate features.
• Collaborate within an Agile Scrum team with systems, calibration, hardware, and software quality assurance engineers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science.
• At least 2 years of experience in embedded controls software.
• Proficiency in MATLAB, Simulink, C, and C++.
• Experience with software testing, auto code generation, Jira, and Agile software development.
• Knowledge of Python for test scripting.
• Ability to collaborate effectively, work independently, manage ambiguity, and share knowledge in a fast-paced environment.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in a relevant engineering or computer science field.
• Five or more years of experience in embedded controls software.
• Knowledge of automotive CAN and Ethernet communication protocols.
• Knowledge of software architecture, embedded operating systems, controller communication, and diagnostics.
