TL;DR

Senior Embedded Software Engineer (Automotive): Designing and building safety-critical firmware for autonomous transit vehicles with an accent on RTOS environments, communication protocols, and hardware bring-up. Focus on developing reliable, low-latency systems for resource-constrained platforms and ensuring compliance with safety-critical standards.

Location: Must be based in or able to commute to Pittsburgh, PA (Hybrid: 2 days/week in office)

What you will do

  • Design, prototype, and test production firmware for safety-critical vehicle systems.
  • Develop and optimize applications in RTOS environments for reliability and performance.
  • Evolve communication architecture between MCUs, sensors, and main compute using standard and custom protocols.
  • Lead bring-up and debugging for new boards and SoCs, including bootloaders and drivers.
  • Build automated testing frameworks at unit, integration, and system levels.
  • Mentor team members and establish engineering standards and best practices.

Requirements

  • Must be based in or able to commute to Pittsburgh, PA
  • 7+ years of experience developing embedded software for production systems.
  • Expert-level proficiency in C and/or C++.
  • Strong command of communication protocols (SPI, UART, I2C, CAN, TCP/UDP).
  • Experience developing on RTOS environments.
  • Experience with MCU bootloaders, device drivers, and SoC bring-up.

Nice to have

  • Experience with safety-critical standards like ISO 26262.
  • Experience with automotive-grade safety MCUs (e.g., NXP S32K3, Infineon AURIX).
  • Familiarity with deterministic timing and networking (NTP, PTP, TSN).
  • Experience with CAN tooling and DBC-based workflows.
  • Scripting experience with Python for test automation.
