Set-Up Mechanic (Packaging Equipment)

Location: Onsite in Opelika, Alabama, United States. The role does not offer immigration sponsorship or support, including the Form I-983 training plan required for STEM OPT.

Salary: $40,000–$66,000 per year, plus potential annual performance bonus and benefits.

What you will do

• Plan and execute packaging-line changeovers, including cleaning, inspection, tooling installation, equipment setup, and startup.
• Operate and adjust packaging equipment such as fillers, cappers, sealers, labelers, vision systems, banders, and indexing equipment.
• Perform preventive maintenance, troubleshoot equipment malfunctions, and complete minor mechanical repairs.
• Improve line speeds, quality, efficiency, output, OEE, and changeover times through equipment adjustments.
• Maintain cleaning, maintenance, and production documentation in accordance with safety procedures, SOPs, and current Good Manufacturing Practices.
• Support packaging-line technician and lead duties and assist senior mechanics with complex repair diagnostics.

Requirements

• High school diploma, GED, or five years of equivalent work experience.
• At least one year of experience or working knowledge of packaging operations.
• Mechanical aptitude for routine repairs, adjustments, and precision setup of packaging equipment.
• Ability to safely use standard hand tools, portable power tools, and material-handling equipment.
• Fluent English is required to communicate equipment issues, understand manuals, and maintain written records.
• Ability to stand, walk, perform physical labor, and intermittently lift up to 50 pounds in a manufacturing environment.
