Systems Engineer - Defence (Opto-Electronic and Sensor Systems): Delivering next-generation sensing capabilities for maritime and avionics defence platforms with an accent on requirements engineering, system architecture, integration, and verification. Salary: GBP 35,000–65,000 per year.

What you will do

• Deliver systems engineering activities across the full V-model lifecycle, from requirements capture and architecture through integration, verification, validation, and delivery.
• Capture, manage, and maintain system requirements in DOORS with complete traceability to design and testing.
• Define system architectures, interfaces, boundaries, and functional behaviour for complex real-time systems.
• Lead and support integration activities across embedded software and sensor subsystems.
• Develop and execute integration and system-level test strategies.
• Contribute to design reviews, technical governance, risk-based decisions, defect management, upgrades, and configuration control.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of relevant systems engineering experience in defence, aerospace, or another safety-critical environment.
• Strong experience with requirements engineering, including elicitation, decomposition, and traceability.
• Experience working on the left-hand side of the V-model, covering requirements, design, and architecture.
• Experience using DOORS or similar requirements management tools, plus systems integration, verification, and validation.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, or an equivalent technical military background.
• Willingness and eligibility to obtain SC security clearance are required.

Nice to have

• Experience with opto-electronic, optical, or sensor-based systems.
• Knowledge of MBSE, SysML, and other systems modelling techniques.
• Experience decomposing complex systems into subsystem architectures.
• Knowledge of real-time embedded systems and test procedure development.
• Background in maritime or defence programmes.
