Staff Backend Engineer (Ruby), AI Engineering: DAP Repository Flows (AI)

Location: Remote in Canada or the United States

Salary: $152,800–$259,200 USD base salary per year for residents of the United States

What you will do

• Set technical direction and make architecture decisions for DAP onboarding, repository flows, and background flows.
• Design and deliver autonomous and scheduled agents that operate on customer codebases through the Duo Agent Platform.
• Design and refine onboarding so customers can configure projects and become productive quickly.
• Collaborate across the Duo Agent Platform organization on interfaces, shared patterns, and platform capabilities.
• Mentor senior and intermediate engineers, review designs and code, and raise engineering quality.
• Identify, solve, and prevent complex technical problems through sound system design.

Requirements

• Deep hands-on experience with Ruby and Ruby on Rails in production systems.
• Experience integrating LLMs into products; machine-learning model training is not required.
• Experience building autonomous or semi-autonomous agentic systems.
• Experience designing and shipping complex, high-scale systems and driving technical direction across teams.
• Strong written communication and the ability to work effectively in a distributed, async-first environment.
• Staff-level judgment and influence, including setting direction, unblocking others, and multiplying team impact.
