TL;DR
Lead Nuclear Engineer (Nuclear Engineering): Leading the design, development, and testing of portable nuclear microreactors with an accent on core physics, shielding, instrumentation and controls, reactor operations, and safety. Focus on managing interdisciplinary engineering projects, developing simulation pipelines, delivering regulatory analyses, and building a high-performing nuclear engineering team.

Location: 100% onsite at hirify.global’s headquarters in El Segundo, California, United States. Extended hours and weekends may be required as necessary. A limited remote workday allocation is available as a benefit but does not change the onsite requirement. The position involves access to technology subject to U.S. export controls.

Salary: $140,500–$237,300 annually, plus equity.

hirify.global is a startup developing mass-produced, portable nuclear microreactors for hospitals, data centers, remote sites, and military bases.

What you will do

  • Lead an interdisciplinary team working across safety analysis, core performance, shielding, instrumentation and controls, operations, and thermal-hydraulics.
  • Hire, manage, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of nuclear engineers.
  • Own nuclear engineering projects from requirements capture through multidisciplinary design, testing, and delivery.
  • Develop simulation pipelines, perform analysis post-processing, and prepare summaries for regulatory deliverables.
  • Collaborate with regulatory stakeholders on nuclear industry standards and requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in nuclear engineering or an equivalent field from an accredited institution.
  • At least 5 years of nuclear engineering industry experience with relevant software.
  • Experience with MCNP and/or OpenMC.
  • Deep knowledge of neutron transport and Monte Carlo simulation theory.
  • At least 1 year of experience managing direct reports.
  • Willingness to work 100% onsite in El Segundo and extended hours or weekends when required.

Nice to have

  • Master’s or PhD in nuclear engineering or an equivalent field.
  • Subject matter expertise in safety analysis, shielding, instrumentation and controls, reactor operations, or radioactive material transportation.
