TL;DR
Ground Software Engineer (Rust/TypeScript): Building and operating software for satellite development, testing, mission control, and customer payloads with an accent on mission automation, constellation operations, and reliable ground systems. Focus on designing cross-stack capabilities, integrating spacecraft operations workflows, and solving complex challenges across satellite command and control, radio communications, and astrodynamics.

Location: The position requires in-person presence at the headquarters in Torrance, California; the posting also lists Seattle, Washington.

Salary: $123,000–$150,000 base salary plus company equity.

hirify.global is a Series C aerospace startup developing high-power satellite platforms for commercial and U.S. government missions from low Earth orbit to deep space.

What you will do

  • Design and implement software for building, testing, and operating satellites and customer payloads.
  • Extend the mission software platform used to operate K2’s Gravitas satellite and scale it for multiple constellations.
  • Collaborate with Mission Operations, Flight Software, and external customers to define mission architecture and payload software solutions.
  • Lead software design reviews, architecture discussions, and code reviews.
  • Work across a Rust backend and TypeScript/Vue frontend.
  • Support ground testing and on-orbit operations through an on-call rotation and mentor other engineers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, mathematics, or another STEM discipline, or at least 3 years of professional software engineering experience.
  • Must be able to work in person at the Torrance, California headquarters.
  • Must be a U.S. person under ITAR regulations or otherwise eligible for a federally issued export control license.
  • Ability to collaborate with mission operators, engineers, and external customers on complex technical and business problems.
  • Ability to participate in on-call support for ground testing and spacecraft operations.

Nice to have

  • Experience with space missions or satellite ground segments.
  • Experience with Rust or statically typed backend languages such as Go, C++, Java, C#, or TypeScript.
  • Experience with modern frontend development using JavaScript/TypeScript and Vue, React, or Svelte.
  • Experience with CI/CD, deployment, monitoring, HTTP or gRPC APIs, SQL databases, and event-driven architectures.
  • Experience with reliable scalable systems, Docker, Kubernetes, WebSockets, networking protocols, data streaming, or cybersecurity standards such as SOC 2 and FedRAMP.
