Principal Transportation And Energy Consultant (Port & Maritime Decarbonization)

Location: United States; nationwide remote work or work from an hirify.global office is available, with preference for the West Coast.

Salary: $89,649–$152,404 for full-time employment.

What you will do

• Lead projects covering port electrification, shore power, battery storage, microgrids, charging infrastructure, and clean marine fuel deployment.
• Conduct feasibility assessments, evaluate utility and grid capacity constraints, and develop integrated energy and decarbonization strategies.
• Analyze emissions, emerging technologies, regulatory requirements, and operational impacts across ports, terminals, and freight transportation systems.
• Engage with port leadership, terminal operators, utilities, regulators, and other industry stakeholders.
• Identify funding opportunities and support applications for local, state, and federal grants and incentives.
• Write reports, deliver presentations, support business development, mentor junior staff, and lead multidisciplinary teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in transportation, environmental studies, energy, public policy, or a related field.
• 8+ years of experience in clean transportation, including experience as an employee of or consultant to a major U.S. seaport.
• Foundational knowledge of transportation electrification, vehicle technologies, charging infrastructure, and clean transportation fuels.
• Knowledge of strategies for reducing greenhouse gas emissions from the transportation sector.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, prioritization, and multitasking skills.
• Ability to work under tight deadlines with flexibility and sound business ethics.
