TL;DR
Quality Engineer - Orion Assembly (Automotive): Owning vehicle-system quality performance and defect reduction for Orion-built vehicles with an accent on advanced problem solving, supplier quality, control plans, and manufacturing support. Focus on analyzing systemic quality issues, coordinating containment and corrective actions, managing process controls and engineering changes, and improving reliability across underbody and related vehicle content.
Location: Onsite at Orion Assembly in Lake Orion, Michigan, five days per week. Travel is required for less than 25% of the role. The position does not provide relocation benefits, and GM does not provide immigration-related sponsorship.

What you will do
- Own plant quality metrics and lead defect-reduction initiatives for vehicle systems and underbody content.
- Lead emerging-issue response, containment, breakpoints, line support, and customer-focused quality problem solving.
- Analyze plant, supplier, verification-station, warranty, and field data to identify systemic issues and drive corrective actions.
- Maintain and improve PFMEAs, process control plans, torque strategies, alignment controls, and functional verification processes.
- Coordinate supplier, engineering, and manufacturing issue resolution, including controlled shipping, repair, rework, and containment activities.
- Support engineering changes, production trial runs, temporary work orders, warranty reduction, and supplier cost recovery.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant experience.
- At least 2 years of experience in manufacturing, quality, engineering, or a related field.
- Experience and knowledge of manufacturing processes with strong analytical and decision-making skills.
- Knowledge of quality engineering methods, structured problem solving, PFMEA, process control plans, SPC, or related controls.
- Ability to work effectively with Engineering, Suppliers, Manufacturing, and Quality teams and influence without direct authority.
- Must work onsite at Orion Assembly in Lake Orion, Michigan; immigration sponsorship is not available now or in the future.
Nice to have
- Mechanical, automotive, or related engineering degree, or a graduate engineering degree.
- Quality Engineering or Supplier Quality experience in an automotive manufacturing environment.
- Experience with torque management, alignment, functional testing, GD&T, body dimensional analysis, or underbody vehicle content.
- Red X Technical Problem Solving or Design for Six Sigma certification.
