Lead Performance Test Engineer

Location: Hybrid working across company offices, client sites, and home; working from home 100% of the time is not permitted. Security Check clearance requires continuous residence in the United Kingdom for the last 5 years.

What you will do

• Lead and technically direct performance engineering teams across complex client programmes.
• Define performance strategies, non-functional requirements, workloads, baselines, acceptance criteria, and quality gates.
• Design and execute load, stress, endurance, scalability, volume, and failover testing.
• Embed performance engineering throughout the delivery lifecycle in collaboration with engineering, architecture, DevOps, SRE, cloud, and business teams.
• Assess web applications, APIs, microservices, distributed systems, and cloud-native architectures for scalability, resilience, and production readiness.
• Use monitoring, observability, diagnostics, and performance tuning to identify and resolve bottlenecks.

Requirements

• Strong experience in enterprise performance engineering and non-functional testing.
• Hands-on experience with LoadRunner, JMeter, NeoLoad, Gatling, or k6.
• Experience integrating performance testing into CI/CD pipelines and working with monitoring, observability, and telemetry tools.
• Knowledge of cloud-native, containerised, and modern application architectures, including capacity planning and operational resilience.
• Strong root-cause analysis, diagnostics, performance tuning, stakeholder management, communication, and consulting skills.
• Security Check (SC) clearance is required; eligibility includes continuous residence in the United Kingdom for the last 5 years, with additional checks covering identity, nationality or immigration status, employment history, and unspent criminal records.

Nice to have

• Experience with Dynatrace, AppDynamics, New Relic, Grafana, Prometheus, or Azure Monitor.
• Knowledge of Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud Platform.
• Experience with Kubernetes and Infrastructure as Code.
• Understanding of SRE, SLOs, and operational resilience.
• Experience in regulated, public sector, or healthcare environments, or relevant performance testing, cloud, DevOps, SRE, or observability certifications.
