TL;DR
Lead Test Engineer (C#/.NET, Playwright): Building scalable automated test frameworks and comprehensive web, API, and integration test coverage for assessment and learning software with an accent on quality engineering, automation strategy, and Agile delivery. Focus on improving CI/CD testing reliability, applying risk-based testing, mentoring engineers, and introducing AI-assisted testing approaches.
Location: Manchester, United Kingdom; hybrid working with 2 days a week in the office

What you will do
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable automated test frameworks using C#, .NET, Playwright, Reqnroll, and related testing technologies.
- Develop and execute automated tests across web, API, integration, functional, and non-functional layers.
- Define automation strategy, standards, patterns, and quality practices across multiple Agile development teams.
- Integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines and improve test effectiveness, reliability, and performance.
- Collaborate with developers, analysts, product owners, and business users to identify risks and build quality into products from the earliest stages.
- Mentor engineers, support Agile ceremonies, and explore AI-assisted testing approaches.
Requirements
- Strong hands-on experience with automated test frameworks and tests using C#/.NET, Playwright, Selenium, Reqnroll, or comparable tools.
- Experience with API testing, integration testing, test data management, environment automation, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Strong knowledge of quality engineering, testing lifecycles, Agile/Scrum practices, BDD, and risk-based testing.
- Experience providing technical leadership, coaching, and mentoring in automated testing.
- Ability to perform functional and non-functional testing and work with testing techniques including black-box, white-box, scenario-based, and risk-based testing.
- Ability to work in a hybrid arrangement from the Manchester office two days per week.
Nice to have
- Degree-level qualification in Software Engineering or an equivalent discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
- Experience in educational or commercial environments and with cloud-based technology re-platforming.
- Experience with tools such as Cucumber, SpecFlow, or CodedUI.
