CAD Engineer (Mixed-Signal IC Design)

TL;DR

CAD Engineer (Mixed-Signal IC Design): Supporting and improving EDA/CAD tools and integrated circuit design flows with an accent on analogue and mixed-signal methodologies, simulation, layout, and automation. Focus on developing sophisticated design methodologies, debugging Cadence-based environments, and solving complex flow and tool-integration challenges.

Location: Hybrid position based in the Edinburgh, UK office, with at least two in-office days per week. Candidates must live within commuting distance or be willing to relocate to the UK before starting.

What you will do

• Support design and layout teams with CAD and EDA tools, methodologies, and technical guidance.
• Automate and improve integrated circuit design engineering flows.
• Develop new and enhance existing design methodologies for complex mixed-signal workflows.
• Produce technical reports for design groups and customers.
• Collaborate with external tool vendors to resolve issues and drive tool improvements.

Requirements

• Degree in Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field, or validated experience in IC design, CAD/EDA support, or software development for IC design.
• Deep understanding of analogue or mixed-signal design methodologies.
• Experience with Perforce or SVN revision control systems.
• Expertise in analogue simulation, parasitic extraction, and Cadence OpenAccess.
• Scripting experience, preferably with Python and SKILL, plus strong debugging and problem-solving skills.
• Deep understanding of Linux or UNIX and strong collaboration skills.

Nice to have

• Expertise with Cadence Virtuoso, Spectre/SpectreX, Maestro, and ADE.
• Experience with Virtuoso layout, Xcelium, startup scripts, and .cdsinit or .cdsenv configuration.
• Experience with LVS debugging, Calibre, QRC/Quantus, PDK setup, DRC/ERC sign-off, and circuit ERC tools.
• Experience with analogue Safe Operating Area assertion generation and verification.
