Location: Heidelberg, Germany
Salary: From €4,147.92 net per month, excluding health insurance and pension contributions; Grade 5 or 6 depending on qualifications and experience.

What you will do
- Design and develop mechanical components and assies for advanced scientific instrumentation.
- Analyse mechanical performance using CAD, modelling, and simulation tools.
- Lead mechanical design reviews with researchers and project stakeholders.
- Coordinate component manufacture with internal workshops and external suppliers.
- Integrate mechanical and electrical components into completed scientific instruments.
- Test, deliver, and technically support assies through implementation and continuous improvement.
Requirements
- Undergraduate or postgraduate qualification in mechanical engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Strong experience with CAD software, ideally SolidWorks, for design and simulation.
- Experience designing, assing, and testing prototype instruments.
- Knowledge of manufacturing methods and material selection for metals, polymers, ceramics, and similar materials.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality results on schedule.
- Excellent technical communication skills in English at C1 level.
Nice to have
- Experience with PDM and managing CAD environments.
- Experience with precision mechanisms and engineering design best practices.
- Hands-on conventional machining, 3D printing, and laser cutting experience.
- Knowledge of fluid-flow and heat-transfer analysis or simulation tools.
- Technical communication skills in German at B2 level.
