Sr. Director, Software Engineering (Commercial Payments)

Location: Austin, Texas, United States; at least 3 days per week in the office. The role requires 5–10% travel and is performed in an office setting.

Salary: $206,100–$360,800 USD per year, with potential bonus, equity, and sales incentive payments where applicable.

What you will do

• Lead engineering teams across the architecture, development, testing, deployment, reliability, and production support lifecycle of commercial payments platforms.
• Set technical strategy for large-scale distributed payment systems, focusing on performance, scalability, resiliency, security, and operational excellence.
• Own enterprise platform initiatives from roadmap planning through release, deployment, and ongoing optimization.
• Drive cloud modernization, platform migration, cross-platform integration, automation, secure software development, and GenAI-assisted engineering practices.
• Oversee automation frameworks, testing modernization, CI/CD, release governance, and continuous integration across engineering teams.
• Partner with executives and cross-functional stakeholders to align technology investments, manage risks and trade-offs, and develop high-performing engineering organizations.

Requirements

• 12+ years of relevant experience with a bachelor's degree, or 15+ years of relevant experience.
• Significant experience leading software engineering, platform engineering, or technology delivery organizations at scale, including managing managers and senior technical leaders.
• Experience architecting and delivering distributed systems, APIs, microservices, event-driven platforms, or high-volume transaction-processing systems.
• Experience with cloud modernization, platform transformation, automation, CI/CD, DevOps, security, resiliency, observability, data governance, and infrastructure operations.
• Experience in financial services, commercial payments, B2B payments, merchant or supplier acceptance, or enterprise transaction platforms.
• Must work from the Austin office at least 3 days per week; ability to travel 5–10% of the time is required.

Nice to have

• Experience leading global or distributed engineering teams.
• Familiarity with AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
• Knowledge of compliance, risk, regulatory, or audit expectations in financial services.
• Experience scaling GenAI-assisted engineering tools and practices.
