Senior Director, Software Engineering (Commercial Payments)

Location: Austin, Texas, United States; hybrid with at least 3 days in the office required. Travel required 5–10% of the time.

Salary: $212,600–$372,300 USD per year; bonus, equity, and potential sales incentive payments may apply.

What you will do

• Lead platform engineering teams across the architecture, design, development, testing, deployment, reliability, and production support lifecycle of commercial payments capabilities.
• Set technical strategy for large-scale distributed payment platforms, focusing on performance, scalability, resiliency, security, and operational excellence.
• Own enterprise platform initiatives from concept and roadmap planning through execution, release deployment, and optimization.
• Drive supplier and partner acceptance platforms, cloud transformation, platform migration, cross-platform integration, automation, and secure software development.
• Champion GenAI-assisted engineering, testing modernization, CI/CD, release governance, and developer productivity improvements.
• Build and mentor high-performing engineering teams while partnering with product, technology, operations, infrastructure, risk, business, and executive stakeholders.

Requirements

• 12+ years of relevant experience and a Bachelor’s degree, or 15+ years of relevant experience.
• Significant experience leading software engineering, platform engineering, or technology delivery organizations at scale, including managing managers and senior technical leaders.
• Experience architecting and delivering large-scale distributed systems, APIs, microservices, event-driven platforms, or high-volume transaction-processing systems.
• Experience leading cloud modernization, platform transformation, automation, CI/CD, DevOps, and engineering excellence initiatives across multiple teams or portfolios.
• Strong knowledge of security, resiliency, performance engineering, observability, data governance, infrastructure operations, and enterprise technology strategy.
• Experience managing executive stakeholders, influencing cross-functional priorities, communicating trade-offs, and leading through ambiguity.
• Experience introducing or scaling GenAI-assisted engineering tools and practices.
• Excellent leadership, communication, decision-making, problem-solving, and organizational management skills.
• Experience in financial services, commercial payments, B2B payments, merchant or supplier acceptance, or enterprise transaction platforms.
• Experience leading global or distributed engineering teams; familiarity with AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform; and knowledge of compliance, risk, regulatory, or audit expectations in financial services.
• Experience with API platforms, partner integrations, service-oriented architecture, microservices, cloud-native platforms, enterprise integration patterns, and modernization across legacy and cloud-native ecosystems.
• Ability to translate complex technical concepts into business impact for executive audiences.
