Director of Engineering Integrated Platform (Platform Engineering, SRE & DevOps)

Location: New York, NY

Salary: $235,000–$250,000 annual; bonus eligible.

What you will do

• Lead engineering managers and team leads across SRE, DevOps, and release engineering, including organizational design, hiring, succession planning, and leadership development.
• Own the multi-quarter platform engineering and DevOps roadmap covering CI/CD, infrastructure as code, environment consistency, self-service tooling, and toil reduction.
• Establish major-incident readiness, incident command, stakeholder communication, blameless reviews, and corrective-action follow-through.
• Define release governance, quality gates, production-readiness criteria, deployment sequencing, and safe rollback or roll-forward practices.
• Create and lead an AI roadmap for engineering productivity, testing, knowledge retrieval, incident investigation, and controlled remediation while retaining human authorization for production changes.
• Improve reliability and resilience across AWS, Java/Spring Boot, Kafka, and PostgreSQL through SLOs, observability, capacity planning, failover testing, backup restoration, and disaster recovery.

Requirements

• 10+ years of engineering experience, including direct ownership of production SRE or cloud reliability for business-critical distributed systems.
• Deep AWS experience across IAM, networking, EKS, ECS or Lambda, observability, and infrastructure as code.
• Proven experience leading major incidents, improving detection and recovery times, and implementing verified fixes for recurring incidents.
• Production release-management expertise covering CI/CD quality gates, deployment sequencing, database changes, event-schema changes, and rollback or roll-forward.
• Strong SRE fundamentals, including SLIs, SLOs, error budgets, actionable observability, sustainable on-call practices, and automation of recurring manual work.
• Strong production troubleshooting experience with Java/Spring Boot, Kafka, and PostgreSQL, plus experience leading engineering managers and team leads.

Nice to have

• Experience in financial services or other regulated environments and globally distributed engineering leadership.
• Experience with Kubernetes, Terraform, OpenTelemetry, Kafka Connect, PostgreSQL high availability, progressive delivery, developer platforms, policy-as-code, or measurable AI-enabled engineering improvements.
