TL;DR
Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Advisor (Manufacturing): Supporting and improving the HSE management system for a technically complex manufacturing and laboratory facility with an accent on UK regulatory compliance, hazardous gas safety, environmental management, and emergency preparedness. Focus on leading risk assessments, audits, incident investigations, management of change, and safe integration of new equipment and technologies.
Location: On-site in Abingdon, UK, Monday–Friday, 8:00am–5:00pm, with occasional nights, weekends, and emergency response activities as required. The role is expected to be in the office at least four days per week.
Salary: £64,000–£80,000, plus eligibility for equity in the form of RSUs.

What you will do
- Lead implementation and continuous improvement of the Abingdon site HSE management system, translating global and regional objectives into local programs and performance metrics.
- Maintain compliance with UK health, safety, and environmental legislation, including COSHH, DSEAR, PUWER, environmental permitting, and fire safety requirements.
- Lead audits, inspections, regulatory interactions, risk assessments, legal-register maintenance, and corrective-action closure.
- Manage hazardous materials, hazardous waste, toxic and hazardous gas systems, machine safety, laser safety, cleanroom safety, and contractor safety programs.
- Partner with engineering, operations, facilities, laboratories, and vendors on safe equipment design, installation, commissioning, maintenance, and process changes.
- Lead HSE training, safety committees, incident investigations, emergency response, drills, and continuous-improvement initiatives using root-cause analysis and Human and Organizational Performance principles.
Requirements
- 5+ years of progressive Environmental Health & Safety experience in manufacturing, laboratory, or high-hazard environments.
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
- NEBOSH Diploma Level 6 or an equivalent professional qualification.
- Strong knowledge of UK HSE regulations and practical experience with COSHH, DSEAR, risk assessment, hazardous gases, and emergency procedures.
- Ability to lead site-level HSE programs, influence cross-functional partners, and provide technical leadership or mentoring.
- Ability to work on-site in Abingdon, UK, with flexibility for occasional nights, weekends, and emergency response.
Nice to have
- Experience in semiconductor manufacturing, cleanroom, laboratory, or advanced manufacturing environments.
- Experience with HSG65, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 management systems.
- CMIOSH Chartered status or progress toward chartership.
