Mechanical Design Engineer (Spacecraft Avionics)

Location: Onsite in Phoenix, Arizona, United States

Salary: $75,000–$120,000 annually

What you will do

• Design and develop spacecraft avionics assemblies and electronics packaging using SolidWorks 3D CAD.
• Produce dimensioned and annotated part and assembly drawings according to ASME Y14.5.
• Perform structural and thermal analysis using closed-form methods and finite element models in ANSYS Workbench.
• Prepare design reviews, analysis reports, and environmental test plans for vibration, shock, and thermal testing.
• Support in-person environmental testing, manufacturing integration, assembly issue resolution, and nonconformance disposition.
• Collaborate with systems, electrical design, manufacturing, test, and program management teams to meet schedule, cost, and technical goals.

Requirements

• At least 2 years of mechanical engineering experience focused on design and/or structural analysis.
• Proficiency with 3D CAD software; SolidWorks experience is preferred.
• Hands-on experience designing mechanical parts and assemblies.
• Experience with closed-form or finite element analysis of mechanical assemblies, including thermal and structural analysis.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Access to U.S. export-controlled information is required for the position.

Nice to have

• Experience with spacecraft hardware, electronics packaging, and spacecraft requirements.
• Experience with ANSYS finite element analysis, Teamcenter PLM, and Steinberg fatigue analysis of PCB assemblies.
• Experience with random vibration, shock, thermal vacuum requirements, and environmental testing.
