TL;DR
Mechanical Design Engineer (Spacecraft Avionics): Designing and packaging spacecraft avionics assemblies with an accent on SolidWorks-based mechanical design, electronics packaging, and structural and thermal analysis. Focus on developing finite element models, planning environmental tests, resolving manufacturing integration issues, and documenting designs for mission readiness and customer acceptance.

Location: Onsite in Phoenix, Arizona, United States

Salary: $75,000–$120,000 annually

What you will do

  • Design and develop spacecraft avionics assemblies and electronics packaging using SolidWorks 3D CAD.
  • Produce dimensioned and annotated part and assembly drawings according to ASME Y14.5.
  • Perform structural and thermal analysis using closed-form methods and finite element models in ANSYS Workbench.
  • Prepare design reviews, analysis reports, and environmental test plans for vibration, shock, and thermal testing.
  • Support in-person environmental testing, manufacturing integration, assembly issue resolution, and nonconformance disposition.
  • Collaborate with systems, electrical design, manufacturing, test, and program management teams to meet schedule, cost, and technical goals.

Requirements

  • At least 2 years of mechanical engineering experience focused on design and/or structural analysis.
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD software; SolidWorks experience is preferred.
  • Hands-on experience designing mechanical parts and assemblies.
  • Experience with closed-form or finite element analysis of mechanical assemblies, including thermal and structural analysis.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Access to U.S. export-controlled information is required for the position.

Nice to have

  • Experience with spacecraft hardware, electronics packaging, and spacecraft requirements.
  • Experience with ANSYS finite element analysis, Teamcenter PLM, and Steinberg fatigue analysis of PCB assemblies.
  • Experience with random vibration, shock, thermal vacuum requirements, and environmental testing.
