Senior Mechanical Design Engineer (Aerospace)

Location: South Burlington, Vermont, United States; onsite manufacturing environment

Salary: $100,000–$140,000 USD per year

What you will do

• Design tools, jigs, fixtures, machines, and other equipment for aircraft manufacturing.
• Develop solutions that improve efficiency, production rate, quality, ergonomics, and safety.
• Optimize manufacturing processes and collaborate with product design on manufacturability, datums, handling features, and requirements.
• Lead process ideation, development, prototyping, testing, commissioning, and validation of tooling and equipment.
• Fabricate and modify parts, including machining and welding as needed.
• Create maintenance, troubleshooting, qualification, and calibration documentation while advancing manufacturing R&D.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or another engineering discipline with a strong mechanical design focus.
• At least 10 years of mechanical design experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Mastery of 3D CAD software; SolidWorks or CATIA preferred.
• Experience with structural, thermal, or fluid FEA and mastery of GD&T; ASME Y14.5 experience preferred.
• Experience designing and implementing industrial automation solutions and manufacturing tooling.
• Strong communication, leadership, organization, collaboration, and self-management skills; familiarity with Microsoft Office, Slack, and application lifecycle processes.
• Ability to stand and remain active for an 8-hour shift, lift 25 pounds, and work at a computer for several hours.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of material properties and their applications.
• Experience with composites, thermal design, structural analysis, shock, and vibration testing.
• Experience mentoring junior engineers.
