TL;DR
Staff Structural Analyst (Aerospace): Developing and validating spacecraft and optical payload structures across the full lifecycle with an accent on finite element analysis, structural testing, dynamics, and test-data correlation. Focus on defining mechanical validation approaches, solving complex vibration and shock-analysis problems, and balancing structural risk, cost, and scalable constellation deployment.
Location: San Jose, CA; hybrid schedule with on-site work required three days per week.
Salary: $212,000–$234,000 annually, plus equity and benefits.
Company
is an early-stage end-to-end space systems provider that designs, builds, and operates LEO satellite constellations for climate monitoring, national security, and Earth intelligence.
What you will do
- Own spacecraft structures across conceptual analysis, detailed finite element modeling, validation, testing, and post-test analysis.
- Perform linear and nonlinear static, modal, frequency, random response, dynamics, coupled loads, vibration, and shock analyses.
- Correlate analytical models with test data, identify root causes, define dynamic environments, and prepare test plans and reports.
- Define and lead mechanical and structural validation programs, including factors of safety, no-test margins, load tests, response predictions, and on-site testing.
- Develop engineering standards, analysis tools, quick concepts, and models that support rigorous mechanical design across the team.
- Guide risk-versus-cost decisions, make-versus-buy trades, supplier interactions, and scalable spacecraft constellation development.
Requirements
- 10+ years of spacecraft or aerospace structural analysis experience, or equivalent BS+10 / MS+8 background.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in engineering, preferably Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
- Extensive experience with detailed finite element analysis for aerospace systems using FEMAP, ANSYS, or similar tools.
- Experience designing and executing spacecraft structural tests and working as an individual-contributor structural analyst.
- Programming experience in one or more of Python, Matlab, Julia, C, C++, Fortran, or similar languages.
- Must be a U.S. person or otherwise eligible to access export-controlled information, or be eligible and reasonably likely to obtain the required U.S. export authorization.
Nice to have
- Familiarity with force-limiting principles and opto-mechanical systems.
- Mechanical, spacecraft, or instrument design experience.
- Electronic instrumentation experience, including data acquisition and signal processing.
Culture & Benefits
- Fast-paced early-stage startup environment with broad ownership and frequent new opportunities.
- Opportunities for direct management, tutoring, and mentoring as the team grows.
- Medical, dental, and vision insurance, 401(k), disability insurance, and life insurance.
- Three weeks of paid vacation for new employees, 12 paid holidays, unlimited sick time, and paid parental leave.
- Full-time employees receive equity compensation.
