TL;DR
Applied Scientist (Operations Research): Designing and building optimization models for Amazon's fulfillment network with an accent on real-time order assignment and capacity-aware control systems. Focus on solving large-scale combinatorial optimization problems, implementing MIP and decomposition methods, and scaling research prototypes into production systems.

Location: Luxembourg, Barcelona, Berlin, or London

Company

hirify.global is a global technology leader focusing on e-commerce, cloud computing, and AI-driven logistics optimization.

What you will do

  • Design and implement optimization models (MIP, heuristics, decomposition) to solve large-scale fulfillment problems.
  • Build end-to-end research prototypes from initial problem formulation to scalable production implementation.
  • Analyze complex tradeoffs between cost, speed, and capacity to provide actionable recommendations for leadership.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to integrate scientific solutions into production systems serving millions of orders.

Requirements

  • PhD in Operations Research, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Strong programming skills in Python, Java, or C++.
  • Research experience in mathematical programming (LP, MIP), combinatorial optimization, or multi-objective control.
  • Proven track record of publications in top-tier peer-reviewed conferences or journals.
  • Experience with algorithms, data structures, and numerical optimization.
  • Must be based in or able to work from Luxembourg, Barcelona, Berlin, or London

Nice to have

  • Experience building optimization systems that run in production at scale.
  • Proficiency with Unix/Linux environments.
  • Professional software development experience.

Culture & Benefits

  • Opportunity to develop models that influence billions of euros in annual operational spend.
  • Collaborative environment working alongside Senior and Principal scientists and academic partners.
  • Culture of applied research where success is measured by shipping systems rather than just publishing papers.
  • Inclusive workplace that empowers employees to invent, simplify, and deliver results.
