TL;DR

Engineering Designer - Side Closures (Automotive): Developing manufacturable vehicle side-closure designs using Siemens NX, virtual integration methods, and parametric modeling with an accent on subsystem integration, clearance validation, and design for manufacturability. Focus on creating complex math models, integrating components into vehicle architecture, and delivering accurate, on-time releases through GM’s Global Vehicle Development Process.

Location: Hybrid role based at the Warren Tech Center in Warren, Michigan, with onsite work at least three days per week. The role is not eligible for relocation benefits. GM does not provide immigration-related sponsorship or support for work authorization.

What you will do

  • Develop virtual vehicle integration solutions and integrate component and subsystem designs into vehicle architecture.
  • Create and refine Siemens NX math models, virtual layouts, criteria, and typical sections for side-closure components.
  • Conduct virtual integration, clearance, usage, and configuration studies from component level through full vehicle.
  • Apply manufacturability, Design for Assembly, and integration principles to component and subsystem designs.
  • Support design reviews, release timing, analysis activities, and the Global Vehicle Development Process.
  • Communicate project status, risks, timing, and technical issues while collaborating with engineering and cross-functional teams.

Requirements

  • 2–5 years of experience in CAD or engineering design for automotive or mechanical systems.
  • Proficiency in Siemens NX and parametric modeling.
  • Strong understanding of GD&T, manufacturability, and subsystem integration.
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge of structural or side-closure sheet-metal components and/or casting processes.
  • Ability to work onsite at the Warren Tech Center at least three days per week and work in the United States without GM immigration sponsorship.

Nice to have

  • Experience supporting CAE or engineering analysis workflows.
  • Exposure to virtual integration and multidisciplinary design reviews.
