Senior Software Developer (Data & Backend Development)

Location: Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Salary: $107,000–$157,300 base salary for Canada-based roles, with potential additional bonuses, stock grants, and benefits.

What you will do

• Develop and improve ETL data pipelines using Python, Airflow, Snowflake, Hive, and related data technologies.
• Build scalable RESTful APIs and microservices with security, testing, cost efficiency, and maintainability in mind.
• Monitor pipelines, troubleshoot technical issues, and protect data integrity and reliability.
• Optimize data processing, database queries, and application performance across distributed systems.
• Collaborate with product managers, infrastructure specialists, analysts, QA, business operations, and engineering partners.
• Review code, document APIs, evaluate new data engineering technologies, and implement access controls and encryption.

Requirements

• 7+ years of software development experience across multiple capacities.
• 2+ years of experience with Big Data technologies such as Airflow, EMR/Spark, Snowflake, Hadoop, or Hive.
• Experience with data streaming using Kinesis or Kafka and with RESTful APIs and microservices.
• Proficiency in Python and Java or Scala, plus experience with MySQL or PostgreSQL.
• Experience with AWS cloud services, including S3/EBS, Lambda, EKS, and CloudWatch.
• Knowledge of observability platforms, design patterns, modern development practices, and strong debugging skills.

Nice to have

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent experience.
• AWS Certified Developer – Associate certification.
