Lead Software Engineer (Payments)

Location: Bellevue, Washington, United States; hybrid with at least 3 days in the office. Travel required 5–10% of the time.

Salary: $174,400–$279,100 USD per year, with potential bonus and equity eligibility.

What you will do

• Set the technical vision and lead architecture, design, development, enhancement, and modernization of the Acceptance Solutions transaction-processing platform.
• Build secure, scalable, resilient systems for high-volume payment flows, event-driven processing, and real-time data movement.
• Drive technical direction across distributed systems, cloud-native platforms, platform reliability, scalability, security, and reusability.
• Lead design and code reviews covering performance, resiliency, observability, scalability, security, and maintainability.
• Use production telemetry and operational analysis to improve architecture, code quality, automation, and platform reliability.
• Mentor senior engineers, influence technical leaders, and support incident response, root-cause analysis, release readiness, and continuous improvement.

Requirements

• 10+ years of relevant experience with a Bachelor’s Degree, 7+ years with an advanced degree, 4+ years with a PhD, or 13+ years of relevant experience.
• Expertise in distributed systems, cloud platforms, Kubernetes, event-driven architecture, Kafka, and high-throughput data processing.
• Experience with security architecture, including OAuth 2.0, JWT, mTLS, encryption, and IAM.
• Deep understanding of payment processing, transaction lifecycles, payment capture, event enrichment, transaction matching, and payment network protocols.
• Experience with AI/ML at scale, production deployment of intelligent systems, and AI-enabled engineering practices.
• Experience with SFTP, batch processing, Avro, Protobuf, JSON, retry mechanisms, dead-letter queues, event replay, exactly-once processing, and idempotency patterns.

• 15+ years of progressive technical leadership experience with organization-wide impact.
• Recognized expertise in distributed systems through publications, speaking engagements, or patents.
• Experience with PCI-DSS, SOX, and financial services regulatory compliance.
• Experience building platforms serving billions of transactions and working with executive leadership on technical strategy.
