Software Development Engineer III - Backend - Payments (Payments)

Location: Austin, Texas, United States; hybrid work with office attendance at least three days a week. Relocation assistance is not available.

Salary: $146,000–$204,500 total cash annually, with potential pay up to $233,500 based on sustained performance.

What you will do

• Design, build, and maintain scalable backend payment services and APIs for consumer and B2B payment processing.
• Write clean, modular, maintainable, and optimized code using software design principles, data structures, and design patterns.
• Implement secure data handling practices for payment information and compliance standards.
• Apply architectural patterns and GenAI capabilities to improve system design and innovation.
• Improve service reliability through observability, automation, monitoring, and continuous operational improvements.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-impact features.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in a related technical field, or equivalent professional experience.
• 5+ years of backend software development experience with cloud-based and distributed systems at scale.
• Proficiency in Java or Kotlin and experience integrating services with relational and NoSQL databases.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure and test automation, and Agile development environments.
• Must be located in Austin, Texas, and work from the office at least three days per week.

Nice to have

• Experience with payment platforms or backend services leveraging GenAI technologies.
• Experience contributing to multiple multi-quarter, cross-team projects.
• Production support experience, including monitoring, debugging, incident resolution, and root-cause analysis.
• Experience designing and deploying scalable services on AWS.
• Master's degree in a related technical field.
