Mechanical Design Engineer (Sensor Cleaning)

Location: Foster City, California, United States; hybrid workplace

Salary: $151,000–$207,000 per year base salary, plus potential RSUs, stock appreciation rights, and sign-on bonus.

What you will do

• Develop and integrate sensor cleaning components and systems for cameras, LiDAR, and other perception sensors.
• Perform packaging studies, tolerance analysis, DFMEA, DFM/DFA, and reliability assessments.
• Design prototypes, mockups, proofs of concept, CAD models, engineering drawings, and bills of materials.
• Support test design, validation, sensor performance analysis, failure investigations, and quality management.
• Collaborate with manufacturing and quality engineering to ramp production and improve yield, cost, and vehicle availability.
• Work with suppliers on prototypes, technical issue resolution, and manufacturing readiness.

Requirements

• BS in Mechanical Engineering or Mechatronics with 5+ years of automotive industry experience, or MS with 3+ years.
• Strong mechanical design fundamentals covering injection-molded plastics, sheet metal, machined parts, tolerance stack-ups, fluid and pneumatic systems, and thermal or heating integration.
• Proficiency with 3D CAD tools such as CATIA, NX, Creo, or SolidWorks.
• Experience leading cross-functional teams and bringing new engineering solutions into products.
• Experience with DV/PV testing, DFMEA, PFMEA, APQP, and PPAP processes.

Nice to have

• Sensor cleaning experience.
• Experience with automotive cameras, LiDAR, optical sensors, or ADAS systems.
• Experience with fluid simulation or CFD tools for liquid and airflow analysis.
