Senior Software Engineer (AI)

Location: USA-CA - Promontory D; legal authorization to work in the US required

Salary: USD 121,900–195,000 annual base salary, plus discretionary annual bonus and equity opportunities.

What you will do

• Design, implement, test, debug, and review operations and management features for VMware Cloud Foundation.
• Build scalable private-cloud management capabilities, including proactive monitoring, diagnostics, insights, and observability.
• Design and deliver enterprise-grade agentic applications using foundational and small language models.
• Develop RAG, MCP, context-engineering, model-routing, tool-integration, safety, authorization, execution, and memory-management capabilities.
• Participate in architecture, requirements, coding, documentation, and code reviews within an Agile development lifecycle.
• Collaborate with distributed cross-functional teams and mentor engineers on technology, design, and coding practices.

Requirements

• BS degree in Computer Science or a related field with 8+ years of experience, or MS degree with 6+ years of related experience.
• Hands-on experience with AI-Driven Development Lifecycle practices, AI coding agents such as Claude or Cursor, and spec-driven development.
• Experience designing and deploying enterprise-grade agentic applications with LLMs, SLMs, and autonomous multi-agent architectures.
• Strong backend development skills with Java, Spring, and Hibernate, plus experience building highly available, performant, and scalable products.
• Knowledge of message queueing, event streaming, data caching, RDBMS and NoSQL databases; OpenSearch, PostgreSQL, and ClickHouse are preferred.
• Must have legal authorization to work in the US.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with Angular or React.
• Knowledge of VMware technology.
