Staff Software Engineer (AI Compute)

Location: San Francisco, New York City, or Seattle, United States. Hybrid policy requires staff to work from one of the offices at least 25% of the time; some roles may require more office attendance.

Annual salary: $405,000–$485,000 USD.

What you will do

• Build core systems tracking datacenter sites, designs, bills of materials, equipment, and construction progress.
• Work directly with datacenter, energy, and supply chain teams to understand workflows and develop high-impact tools.
• Migrate and reconcile spreadsheets and legacy trackers, integrating construction, scheduling, engineering, procurement, and related systems.
• Design fine-grained permissions, auditability, and data-quality controls for information supporting major investment decisions.
• Ship early, iterate with users, and collaborate with research on the limits of AI capabilities in engineering-heavy physical-world domains.

Requirements

• 8+ years of software engineering experience with strong full-stack skills and solid knowledge of data modeling, APIs, and databases.
• Experience building software used by teams in datacenters, construction, energy, manufacturing, supply chain, logistics, or another physical-world industry.
• Experience delivering zero-to-one products in startup or startup-like environments.
• Strong user focus, judgment, agency, and clear communication across engineering, operations, and research.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education, training, or professional experience in a relevant field.
• Ability to work from an Anthropic office at least 25% of the time in San Francisco, New York City, or Seattle.

Nice to have

• Datacenter, construction, logistics, legal, or adjacent industry experience.
• Experience with Procore, Autodesk Construction Cloud, Primavera P6, PLM/BOM, ERP, procurement, CAD/BIM, DCIM, or power-system studies.
• Background in electrical, mechanical, or civil engineering, energy systems, or supply chain.
• Experience building products with large language models.
