OT Infrastructure Engineer

TL;DR

OT Infrastructure Engineer (SCADA/PLC/Data Centers): Designing, commissioning, and operating OT systems across data centers and energy infrastructure with an accent on industrial control systems, facility automation, OT networking, and cybersecurity. Focus on integrating power and cooling systems, building IOC observability, resolving complex multi-layer incidents, and standardizing OT architectures across global sites.

Location: Hybrid role based at hirify.global’s New York City headquarters, with regular travel to data center and energy infrastructure sites globally. Work includes active data center environments, on-call technical escalation, and mandatory adherence to electrical safety, LOTO, and PPE requirements.

Salary: $160,000–$250,000 USD

What you will do

• Own the architecture, engineering, deployment, commissioning, operations, and lifecycle management of SCADA, DCS, PLC/RTU, HMI, historian, BMS, EMS, and power monitoring systems.
• Design and maintain OT communication architectures, industrial Ethernet networks, redundancy topologies, OT DMZs, and IT/OT integration layers.
• Integrate facility power and cooling systems, including UPS, generators, ATS, PDUs, chillers, cooling towers, and CRAC/CRAH units.
• Establish OT observability for the Infrastructure Operations Center, including telemetry, alarms, event forwarding, health monitoring, KPIs, and availability targets.
• Lead OT cybersecurity, vulnerability and patch management, access controls, hardening, incident response, and compliance activities.
• Lead incident resolution, root-cause analysis, change management, FAT/SAT, commissioning, site standardization, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Requirements

• 7+ years of hands-on experience in OT/controls engineering or OT infrastructure.
• Experience in data centers, colocation, energy, utilities, or equivalent 24/7 critical infrastructure environments.
• Hands-on expertise with SCADA, DCS, PLC programming, HMI configuration, historian platforms, and IEC 61131-3 programming languages.
• Experience with Modbus, DNP3, BACnet/IP, PROFINET, IEC 61850, OPC-UA, MQTT, industrial Ethernet, VLAN segmentation, and OT/IT boundary architecture.
• Practical knowledge of IEC 62443 and NIST SP 800-82, plus experience securing live control system environments and integrating data center power and cooling systems.
• Relevant controls or OT certification, such as ISA CCST, ISA CAP, or an equivalent qualification; strong technical documentation skills are required.

Nice to have

• Hyperscale or colocation data center experience with large-scale power and cooling systems.
• IT/OT convergence, OPC-UA/MQTT broker deployment, historian-to-cloud, DCIM, or geographically distributed multi-site experience.
• IEC 61850 substation automation, protection relay, utility metering, or interconnection infrastructure experience.
• Experience with Claroty, Dragos, Nozomi Networks, digital twins, predictive maintenance, GICSP, or ISA/IEC 62443 cybersecurity certifications.
