Reporter

Location: Vacaville, California, United States; occasional driving between assignment sites, in-person training sessions, and meetings is required.

Salary: $16.90–$18.50 per hour, plus a cell phone stipend.

A local news publisher providing daily coverage of Vacaville, Fairfield, Dixon, and surrounding Solano County communities.

What you will do

• Report at least two bylined stories each day on local events, issues, and community developments.
• Attend city council meetings, public meetings, and local events to identify and report emerging stories.
• Research topics, conduct interviews in person, by phone, and by email, and verify information across multiple sources.
• Write clear, accurate, engaging stories that follow editorial standards and AP style.
• Build relationships with community members and collaborate with a small newsroom team.
• Meet tight deadlines and adapt to new digital tools, reporting skills, and publishing platforms.

Requirements

• Journalism experience and a strong command of AP style, spelling, and grammar.
• Ability to gather and report accurate information quickly across varied topics.
• Proficiency with PC laptops, digital cameras, recording equipment, and essential reporting technology.
• Strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to community journalism.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.
• Availability for shift work and coverage outside normal business hours required.
